The more people know and understand dogs, the more enriched their lives and their dog’s lives will be!
“I strive to build teams between family members and their dogs. Through understanding and communication, families learn to teach their dogs, modify undesirable behaviors, and promote the wellbeing of eveyone involved”. -Ashley
Ashley’s Journey
As a kid, Ashley was always an animal person. She read books, watched shows, did anything she could to learn about animals…but dogs were always her favorite. Her journey began with her first dog Dylan, a Wheaten Terrier. She insisted she go to his training classes with her parents and she would “teach him agility” in her free time. As she got older she went on to work with horses, farm animals, and dogs in daycare and boarding facilities.
She pursued a bachelor degree at Monmouth University in psychology and concentrated in animal behavior. She was awarded an internship at Six Flags Safari and continued to learn how to use a variety of training techniques that prioritized animal welfare. Ashley was also mentored by an Animal Behaviorist with whom she continued to learn and strengthen her skills.
Once Ashley was confident in her abilities to work with people and their dogs, she took and passed an exam to become a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant and obtained her animal CPR certification. When looking for work in her home town, she found that many trainers were still focusing on compliance rather then overall well-being. Ashley then trusted in her skills and created Training One Paw at a Time, LLC so that she could help families and their dogs with the methodologies she believes in. Through science-based techniques, positive reinforcement, and keeping up with the latest research in dog behavior and training, Ashley has successfully helped an abundance of dogs and their families! Knowledge is power and power can be shared between people and their dogs; creating a life long bond!
